Delhi Metro and Other Metro Projects - A Case-study showcasing the application of ACM

India's metro projects, particularly in cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Hyderabad, have been at the forefront of adopting advanced construction techniques and materials. The need for rapid and large-scale infrastructure development has driven the use of modern materials.

  • Precast and Prefabricated Concrete: A large portion of metro viaducts, pillars, and elevated station sections are constructed using precast and pre-stressed concrete technology. Components are manufactured in controlled factory environments, ensuring high quality and precision. This reduces on-site construction time, minimizes traffic disruption, and lowers environmental impact.

  • Aluminum Third Rail: Kolkata Metro's new lines have been transitioning from the traditional steel third rail to a new aluminum third rail. The aluminum rail has a lower electrical resistance, which reduces heat generation in the tunnels and improves the overall energy efficiency of the system. This is a significant move towards sustainable and more efficient infrastructure.
